BINIBINING PILIPINAS 2015 BETS & FORECAST

Sunday, March 15, 2015

It's another day of beauty in the Philippines!

We will crown tonight five (5) beautiful Binibinis who will represent the Philippines in the Miss Universe, Miss International, Miss Intercontinental, Miss Supranational, and Miss Tourism Queen International 2015 editions.

I've been a fan and follower of Binibining Pilipinas ever since I can remember. I was able to watch the pageant live last year and had a fun time predicting the winners and live tweeting the event. I even drafted a lengthy post on "why Pia Wurtzbach was robbed" but forgot to publish it (let's not have a similar controversy this year, please?).

I've decided to be an armchair judge once more since I'm becoming quite an "expert" on this pageant thing - haha! (I was able to predict 11 out of the Top 15 at the Miss Universe 2014/2015 edition). This batch of 2015 Binibinis is quite hard to figure though. It's easier predicting last year's winners compared to this batch. There's a lot of stand-outs and girls who are worthy of the crowns so I will have some alternates and "dark horses" in my predictions.

Top 15
There are 34 Binibinis who will compete for five (5) crowns and two (2) runners-up position. They will all compete in the Evening Gown and Swimsuit Competitions live. Other awards like the National Costume and Miss Jag were already competed on and showcased in pre-pageant events. The Top 15 Semi-Finalists will be announced after the completion of the evening gown and swimsuit parade.

Here are my predictions for the Top 15 (according to their pin numbers).

Binibining Pilipinas 2015
Clockwise: #6 Toni Alyessa Hipolito, #8 Kimverlyn Suiza, #10 Pia Alonzo Wurtzbach
#11 Janicel Lubina, #11 Kylie Verzosa

Binibining Pilipinas 2015
Clockwise: #13 Mae Liezl Ramos, #19 Christi Lynn McGarry, #21 Alaiza Flor Malinao
#24 Ann Lorraine Colis, #25 Rogelie Catacutan

Binibining Pilipinas 2015
Clockwise: #26 Annabel Christine Tia, #28 Hannah Ruth Sison, #29 Nancy Lee Leonard
#30 Patricia Lae Ejercitado, #34 Teresita Ssen Marquez

I wasn't able to complete my Top 15 predictions last year but I (even) have alternates for this batch. Here are some notable girls whom I want to include in the list as alternates: Samantha Balbin, Ria Rabajante, and Renee Soraya Hassani.

The New Queens
Each of the Top 15 will have a chance to vie for the crowns and runners-up position through the Q&A. The Top 5 will be determined and deliberated after the Q&A round and they will be assigned their respective crowns and titles according to the "rules" of the international competition. The top girl will not necessarily get the Miss Universe Philippines title according to some sources. There are also other rules like age qualification, winnability, and international pageant "mold" which will be considered in assigning the placements.

Here are my guesses on who will get the crowns:

Pia Wurtzbach

Pia Alonzo Wurtzbach
It's time to give Pia a crown! I've been on Team Pia since she first joined in 2013 and I am one of the people who cried "foul" when she failed to get a title last year. Pia is very experienced, trained, and she can guarantee us a good placement in any international pageant that she would be assigned to. I am just hoping that her styling won't fail her this evening. It was one of the things that cost her a crown last year (aside from the controversial Filipino Q&A).

Hannah Ruth Sison

Hannah Ruth Sison
I thought it was Hannah's time in 2013 BUT was surprised that she even placed last year. She's one of the most beautiful girls in the last three batches of Binibining Pilipinas and I truly believe that now is the best time to give her one of elusive titles. Her 2nd Runner-up placement last year gave her the edge and the experience thus she came back very strong this year. She is a stand-out from the very beginning and her styling and projections are also very excellent this year. She is truly one of the girls to beat.

Teresita Ssen Marquez

Teresita Ssen Marquez
I am not a fan of celebrities who wants to go the beauty pageant route and I usually place them lower. BUT this born-into-celebrity beauty showed us week by week that she's more than ready to conquer the universe (or the supranational!). Her outstanding showing in the Swimsuit Press Presentation, the amazing body, and even the elegant National Costume put her at the top of the totem pole. I can definitely see great things for Winwyn! Prepare to be wowed.

Christi Lyn McGarry

Christi Lynn McGarry
Her classic Filipina look, towering height, wit, spontaneity, and good command of the English language is what the Philippines need for another crown win in the international arena. I am not a fan at first but Christi definitely won me over with her excellent showing and performance in the pre-pageants.

Ann Lorraine Colis

Ann Lorraine Colis
I was wondering why she was not getting the hype and chatter that she deserves at the beginning of the pageant. Good that things turned around for her and she's now a true contender for one of the titles. I've been a fan since I first saw her photos at the Official Candidate announcement post back in January. Her earthly good looks and amazingly-toned body are definitely beauty-pageant-crown material.

I did not indicate the titles and crowns in my Top 5 but it would really make me happy if Pia or Hannah will get the top titles.

Runners-Up
Binibining Pilipinas runners-up are no longer consolation accolades. They are now viewed and treated as training grounds for future queens. MJ Lastimosa, Janine Tugonon, Dianne Necio, and Maricar Balagtas are good examples who started as runners-up and ended as crowned queens in later years.

  Janicel Lubina and Kylie Versoza

Janicel Lubina and Kylie Verzosa
Janicel Lubina deserves one of the crowns but I prefer that she get one of the runners-up placement this year so that she can prepare better next year or 2 years from now. She is still very young and has a very good potential to be a Miss Universe winner. I would rather that she prepare for it than place her this year in a non-threatening-on-communication-skills crown like Supranational. As for Kylie, I would've given her one of the crowns or a higher placement if not for the good showing of Winwyn, Christi, and Ann Lorraine. I wish to see her again next year if she will not win any of the crowns.

Still In The Running
I think that the three girls below are still shoo-ins for the titles - dark horses if you must. I would've placed them higher in any other year but this batch has an over-supply of beauties and overachievers. They are my alternates and there is still a huge possibility that they can get one of the crowns or runners-up placements at stake.

The 52nd Binibining Pilipinas Coronation Night will be held at Smart Araneta Coliseum around 8:00 pm and will be broadcasted over ABS-CBN at 9:30 pm on March 15, 2015. There will be a replay on Lifestyle Network on Monday at 6:30 pm. Avoid the Internet if you don't want spoilers from people who will watch it live.

Who's your bet this year?
